The Association of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Specialists Data Interchange Format (commonly known as the AGS specification) is a set of rules for the electronic transfer of subsurface investigation data. It was developed in the United Kingdom in 1991 and has been adopted in a number of countries. More information about this format can be found on the AGS Web site (www.ags.org.uk). gINT fully supports Version 3.1 of the specification.

We have created a utility to convert AGS files to Excel. The original AGS file is not affected by the program. Excel files are created from the AGS files. The AGS data are formatted so that each AGS group is placed in its own worksheet. The first line of each worksheet contains the field names. Continuation lines are reformatted so that all data in one record is on one row of the worksheet. The leading asterisk is removed from variable names and the double asterisks from group names. Question marks (?) are removed from non-standard group and field names.

The intent of the utility is for organizations without appropriate tools for manipulating AGS data (like gINT) can read the data into an application in which they can perform calculations and formatting and can export to other programs. The utility only goes in one direct, AGS to Excel, not from Excel to AGS.

This utility is available within gINT version 6 and later under the File:AGS menu in the Input application. If you have gINT version 6 or later DO NOT download this file. You already have it.
